The Rebuke of Jane Thomas
"Your speech is a riddle,"
Said old Brother Biddle,
"Your language confusing at best.
You speak of a Father
You think it would bother
To answer a daughter's request.
"You speak of a Savior
With perfect behavior
Who hasn't an ear for the saved.
You speak of a Spirit
Yet doubt He will hear it,
Forgetting your name is engraved.
"I wager your notion
Would grow with devotion,
Your God be more rightly adored,
Your prayers grow persistent
As you grow consistent
In serving the one you call 'Lord.'"
